CELPIP is a Canadian test primarily built for Permanent Residence or immigration purposes. It takes 3 hours or less and can be done in one sitting. No additional scheduling required for the speaking section. If you are planning to come to Canada it is the recommended test. CELPIP also has a LS version of their test designed for Canadian Citizenship only in Canada, it is a quick 1 hour test only focusing on Listening and Speaking.

CAEL is a Canadian test primarily built for entrance into post-secondary institutions. It takes up to 3 and a half hours but is fully computer delivered with the option of doing it from home under certain circumstances. A unique feature of this test is access to editing tool as this test cares more about your ability to understand and work in a university setting.

IELTS is accepted in all English-speaking countries and has two test types. Academic type is built for Study purposes. General Training is meant for work or Immigration purposes. Although the content is different the breakdown for the test is the same.

The test has four modules:

1. Listening – 40 Questions – Approximately 30 minutes (plus 10 minutes’ transfer time)
2. Reading – 40 Questions – 60 minutes.
3. Writing – 2 tasks – 60 minutes
4. Speaking – 3 parts – 11–14 minutes (Usually scheduled separately, often on a different day)
